Chamomile has been widely regarded as a sleep inducer and is used as a mild sedative to treat insomnia and other sleep-related problems. Studies have shown people falling into a deep sleep within minutes of drinking chamomile tea. This herb’s sedative effects can be attributed to chamomile’s flavonoid compound called apigenin. Apigenin binds with other receptors in the brain, which then initiates and aids sleep.

One of the most popular uses of Chamomile tea is in the treatment of stress disorders. Studies have shown that Chamomile may have clinically meaningful antidepressant activity and is recommended to relieve anxiety and general depression. A soothing cup of Chamomile tea can help increase serotonin and dopamine levels in your brain; these hormones are known to effectively reduce anxiety, depression and stabilise your mood and feelings of well-being and happiness.

Chamomile’s ability to fight harmful bacteria makes it an excellent immunity booster.
It is also famously known to treat cold and sore throat. Due to the presence of large amounts of antioxidants, it acts as a defence against inflammation and is highly effective.

According to studies, it has been used to treat various gastrointestinal disturbances, including flatulence, irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion, diarrhoea, anorexia, motion sickness, nausea, and vomiting and even diabetes to an extent.
Menstrual pain reliever.
Chamomile infusions are known to be used to treat menstrual cramps and Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS). Interestingly, a study done in the year 2010 found that consuming Chamomile tea for a month could reduce the pain of menstrual cramps.
Terpenoids in chamomile decrease the production of prostaglandins (a chemical compound that causes inflammation and severe menstrual cramps when released in large amounts in the body) and relax the uterus.
